Horse Racing Betting at Betsafe

At Betsafe, you’ll find our variety of horse racing betting options to be one of the best on the market. Why? There are horse racing odds for over 300,000 events worldwide every year. We highlight horses running in more than 40 countries. How cool is that? No horse race is too small - that’s our motto. So you've got questions about horse betting. How is this vast scale possible? What can you bet on? We reveal all.

What types of horse racing betting do we offer?

There are three different types:
  • Gallops
  • Jumps
  • Trotting
Think of gallops as flat racing. No obstacles are jumped. The horse betting on offer here covers all-weather, dirt and turf races. This is the most popular worldwide.
Jumps horse racing involves obstacles. Here you’ll find hurdle races and steeplechases. Racehorses jump fences in chases. Jumps horse betting is one of the most popular.
Trotting is also called harness racing. Horses pull a two-wheeled cart around the track. This is called a sulky or spider. Trots are most popular in mainland Europe and Nordic countries.

What horse racing odds are available?

The massive choice offered to you breaks down into three categories:
  • Current
  • Ante post
  • Specials
Current horse racing odds are for events happening today. These are listed by type, country and track. You should click on any race to see more details. These include race and place terms. Race time, surface, purse and distance are all provided too.
Ante post odds are for future events. These are markets on big races. You may bet weeks or months in advance. Ante post horse racing betting is listed by country, with the date of the race next to it. These appear in chronological order. Again, race and place terms are listed, along with race type, surface and distance.
Special horse racing odds are different. Your bet may not just be about one race. Specials often apply to the whole year or season. Top trainer or jockey and breeding specials are common examples.

How can I tell if a horse is running abroad?

Trainers and owners sometimes run their racehorses abroad. This is often because of valuable Flat or harness races. It used to be difficult to keep track of that, but now it's easy for you!
We have an international runners page highlighting all foreign horses. These are listed by race type, location and date. You should use this unique feature and stay updated.

Can I stream horse races online that I bet on?

Yes, you can. If you place bets through us, we offer live streaming. There’s an international flavour to it too! You can watch horse racing from around the world.
Check out live streams from Canada, Germany, South America and the US. If you enjoy horse racing betting, it’s only fair that you see how your horses do.

How are horse racing odds displayed?

There are two ways we display horse racing betting here:
  • Decimals
  • Fractions
Decimal odds are common in Europe. Fractional odds are popular in other areas. For example, the decimal price 4.50 is the same as the fraction 7/2. You can toggle between formats. Hit the gear on the racing menu, then adjust the odds format to suit you.

What horse racing betting markets are offered?

With horse betting here, there are two market types:
  • Fixed odds prices
  • Pool betting
Fixed odds are the most common type. Through them, you will always be able to bet on a horse to win.
If there are enough runners in a race, then you may bet each-way. This is where you back a horse to win and place. Place terms vary, however. They depend on the race type. There must be five or more horses running for a bookmaker to offer each-way betting.
Races with five, six or seven runners pay on second place. You get a quarter of the outright win price. Events with eight horses and above pay out on third place. Certain races have extra places. For these, it can be a quarter or a fifth of the win odds. This depends if the race is a handicap. Place terms are always listed on a race page. Non-runners may cause place terms to be altered.
You can put more than one selection on your betslip. If these are from different races, then you are making an accumulator. Known as accas for short, the odds multiply from leg to leg. All legs must win for an accumulator to pay. Sounds like fun? You should try our accumulation betslip - this helps you to place accas and combination bets.

What is pool betting?

Pool betting is where money gets paid to you from a tote. That is short for totalizer. Your return on a bet depends on how popular a horse is with fellow pool bettors.
Returned dividends do differ from fixed odds starting prices. Pool betting is popular around the world. It’s particularly famous for multiple bets. These are accumulator style bets where odds again multiply from leg to leg.

What is a Win 6 bet?

A Win 6 is a popular pool betting type. You choose horses for each of the first six races at a track. Each must win if you want the jackpot.

What is a Place 6 bet?

A Place 6 is another special pool bet. You again pick a horse from each of the first six races at a track. They don’t have to all win for you to get a return, though. Here, we pay out if all horses place.
