One NHL Futures Bet For Every Canadian Team

It’s a beautiful time of year to be living in Canada. The leaves are starting to change color, which means the NHL season is upon us! With a fresh season around the corner, there is no better time to place futures bets than NOW. Here is one futures bet for each NHL team that could make you some money this year.

Toronto Maple Leafs

+1400 to win Stanley Cup place your bet here

Yes, we know it’s laughable, they’re cursed. They haven’t won a playoff round in 17 years blah blah blah BUT I think the core 4 of Tavares, Matthews, Marner and Nyladner could show up more motivated than ever after last year’s embarrassing playoff loss to Montreal. Those are some extremely talented players who may be playing with a massive chip on their shoulder this year. If they get the monkey off their back with a playoff win in round 1 watch out. Toronto also has a very underrated top 4-D pairing that can be sturdy enough to get the job done. The Leafs will go as far as their goaltenders Jack Campbell and Peter Mrazek take them. I think there’s a chance one of these goalies could “spike” and finish as a top 10 goalie this year. Although brief, both goalies have flashed periods of brilliance.

Edmonton Oilers

+450 to win Pacific division place your bet here

Realistically McDavid and Draisaitl could win the Pacific division on their own. We know for sure Edmonton’s superstars will light up the regular season and with Vegas as the only real threat to challenge for 1st in the Pacific division, I think this is a sneaky good bet. The Oilers also landed one of the biggest free agents this offseason in Zach Hyman who will do wonders for McDavid and Draisaitl. We could also see Yamamoto and Puljujarvi take big steps forward. Edmonton’s biggest barrier to a division title would be their goaltenders Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen. These two don’t exactly inspire much confidence. Personally, I’m shocked the Oilers didn’t upgrade their goaltending in the offseason, but this is still a solid futures bet.

Montreal Canadians

+2800 to win the Stanley Cup place your bet here

The Habs came within 3 games of the Cup last year, who’s to say they can’t reignite some of that magic? Personally, I hate the Habs and would never bet on them but if you think the loss of Shea Weber won’t be too much for Montreal to overcome sprinkle a little dough on them to go on another magical run. They still have Carey Price who can win a playoff series on his own. The Habs offense also may have got a bit better this year with the addition of Mike Hoffman and Christian Dvorak. If young guns Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki take another step forward with their development, and guys like Gallagher and Anderson stay healthy, the Habs may again be a team you want to avoid in the playoffs. Montreal is built for a playoff puck.

Winnipeg Jets

+1000 Connor Hellebuyck to win the Vezina place your bet here

Connor Hellebuyck is ELITE and still only 28 years old. He’s won the Vezina before, why can’t he do it again? For the last couple of seasons, the Jets’ biggest knock has been their defense which they very much improved this offseason with the additions of Nate Schmidt and Brenden Dillon. The Jets could also be an offensive force this year if Pierre-Luc Dubois regains his form. Giving a goalie like Hellebuyck a goal cushion will only make him harder to deal with.  At +1000 this is a tremendous value.

Vancouver Canucks

+1600 Quinn Hughes to win the Norris Trophy place your bet here

This one is maybe a bit of a stretch but hear me out. Is there a scenario where Hughes leads NHL defensemen in points this year? Yes absolute, he only finished 7 points back of the lead last year. Vancouver’s power play will be deadly, and Hughes is going to rack up points again so he could easily finish as the top point-producing defensemen. The Norris goes to the best all-around defensemen so if Hughes somehow finds a way to take a giant leap forward with his defensive play, he could easily get himself into contention for the Norris. This is a sneaky futures bet if you have faith that Quinn can step up on his own end.

Calgary Flames

+1800 to win Western Conference place your bet here

Maybe a full year with 2-time Stanley Cup-winning coach Darryl Sutter behind the bench could reignite the Flames flames? If Monahan, Gaudreau, and Tkachuk return to form and produce consistently, that’s going to be a force to reckon with. Andrew Mangiapane will also continue to break out as one of the league’s best two-way forwards. Calgary could very well surprise some people this season. The defensive additions of Nikita Zadarov and Erik Gudbranson on the blue line will help ease the pain of Mark Giordano’s departure. Blake Coleman is also a terrific addition for the Flames fresh off his contributions to Tampa’s Cup wins. Could the Flames make the playoffs? No doubt they can and once the playoffs start it’s a whole new game that could play right into their hard-nosed style.

 Ottawa Senators

+12500 to win Stanley Cup place your bet here

I mean stranger things have happened in sports, right? When Greece won the Euro Cup in 2004 their pre-tournament odds were +15000. Could the Sens sneak into a wildcard spot on the last day of the regular season, make the playoffs by 1 point, win round one in dramatic fashion, and then build momentum to a Cup championship? Why the hell not, it’s hockey anything can happen! After all the Habs almost did that last year! $10 pays $1250 LOL.
