Clash of the Week: Chelsea vs Manchester City

Football kicks off slowly on Friday, with only Bayern Munich’s visit to Greuther Furth on offer from the top competitions. But arguably the most anticipated clash of the weekend is happening in the English Premier League. Here we see last season’s league champions Manchester City travel to the winners of the UEFA Champions League Chelsea, as these two giants of English football look to get one over their rivals in the race for this season’s title.

On Saturday, the major events start at 13:30 with two matches from the English Premier League, the titanic clash between Chelsea and Manchester City, the two favourites to win the title this season and Manchester United hosting Aston Villa. Later in the day, Everton host Norwich, Leeds take on West Ham in what should be an interesting encounter and Leicester host an out of sorts Burnley, looking to bounce back from defeat against Brighton in the last round.

Chelsea vs Manchester City

Standings and Team Stats – Chelsea

Chelsea’s excellent start to the season is once again based on solid defence, they have four clean sheets so far this season and 15 out of 24 matches since Thomas Tuchel took over. They have also been on form at the other end of the pitch with all their league wins this season coming via a two or more goal margin.

Standings and Team Stats – Man City

City haven’t had the best starts to the season by their standards, with 3 wins from 5 matches so far and a disappointing goalless draw against Southampton last time around. Chelsea have had the better of recent encounters, with three successive wins against City including last season’s FA Cup semi-final and Champions League final.
